A former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, is dead. The 70-year-old, who had been on a life support machine since last Friday at First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, after slipping into a coma following Coronavirus complications, finally died on Thursday, according to findings by SaharaReporters. On Monday, a reliable source close to the ex-governor had told SaharaReporters that Ajimobi had been on life support machine after he slipped into a deep coma and may not make any recovery going by the observations of medical experts around him.  The source further disclosed that the former Oyo governor had a lung surgery since being rushed to the Lagos hospital but made no progress while his kidneys had also failed. A Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has freed a 15-year-old girl (name withheld) charged with murdering a 51-year-old man Babatunde Ishola who allegedly tried to rape her. The Imo State Police Command on Tuesday paraded two women involved in child trafficking alongside nine other suspects whose crimes vary from armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of arms. The suspects whose names were given as Victoria Joseph aged 28 and Joy Ugorji aged 33 allegedly stole a two-year-old boy at Kakuano LGA in Rivers State and offered him for sale. The Police Commissioner, Isaac Akinmoyede while briefing newsmen said that the boy is safely kept in a motherless babies home and efforts are being made to locate his parents. In a related development, the command paraded armed suspects, Ekene Okpara aged 23 from Amaihe Orsu LGA and Obiefule Pascal aged 20 from Obikwo Obidi in Oguta LGA of Imo state.



 

Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia state, has tested positive for COVID-19. John Okiyi Kalu, commissioner of information in the state, announced the case in a statement on Monday. A 25- year- old man Ezekiel Yunana is in police custody for raping a 85- year- old grandmother in Rafi local government area of Niger state. The victim reported that she was sleeping when the suspect broke into her room through the window and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. She explained that Ezekiel had threatened to kidnap her, asking her to pay a large sum of money, which she told him she didn’t have. The victim said that the suspect raped her for a very long time before she was rescued by her grandson, Ishaku Achidawa, who was able to identify him. Confessing to the crime, Yunana said he raped her since she did not have any money to give him. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abiodun Wasiu, explained the Police Divisional Office in Kagara recieved the complaint from the grandmother and her grandson and arrested the suspect. He added that the suspect had confessed to committing the crime, adding the case will soon be charged to court.
